New Algorithm together with Boost feature

Yesterday Upwork has launched their new algorithm for Talent search (for invites).

The first, third, and sixth places are now Boosted, which means that you are on a Boost not only with job post invites but here too.

This is a bad story for all freelancers who used Boost before. When a client creates a job post and sees you, they already have a goal to hire. However, on a talent search, people might just click through to learn about you or research competitors.

But there is even worse news: you are not matching with the needed search! Look at this Manga girl matching with an ML developer request.

Or look at this same freelancer repeated 6 times on the same page

How to match

I've started searching for the logic and found that they have launched 2 new sorting features:

  1. Suggestions. Meaning your profile should have not only a requested search but also suggested searches for your search.

That's easy. You can find suggested searches here and add to your profile

  1. Client relationship status with talents. Seems like I will never see freelancers I had in a work history in my list. You can't do anything with it for now.

Bug with categories

Categories are disappearing! Don't touch them!

As you know, you need to match by category with the job you are applying for. That's why it's recommended to have all 10 categories in your settings. But what do you do if categories just disappear? It means you are not going to match!

My overall suggestion for this week: don't touch anything in your profile. Don't change anything. These bugs may spoil your lead generation work!
