Invitations and direct messages on Upwork. Difference, tips, warnings, memes
Hello everyone! Many questions, how to get more invitations are always in my direct messages.
Invitations
Right now, you can get invitations from:
- talent search
- second step of the job post from client
To get invites from talent search - improve your profile. There is a big article I already wrote here.
Long story short, to be on top you need to:
- Have the needed keyword everywhere
- Have suggested words by Upwork in your profile description and in your portfolio cases description
- Have related queries in your profile description and in your portfolio cases description
- Daily updates!
For example, one of my clients - Malevich studio put almost ALL their profiles to the first pages just in a couple of months
To be the first organically on a second step of job post, you need to have a great offer rate. Offer rate was a theory suggested not by me but by Vadym (founder of gigradar) and proved by my experiments but more to go!

Direct messages.
Direct messages are great and usually even more warming than invites. These people like you. You don't always like them...
You can get direct messages from:
- your project catalog
- talent search => your profile view
- global internet search
Project catalog is a dark part for most of us but here are a few secrets:
- More keywords. It works like Upwork at the start of existence
- Low starter pack
- Small delivery time
- Already purchased catalog
Warnings:
- there are many scammers.
a) If someone sent you and offer right away - Most it's probably a scammer. Don't accept before discussion
b) if someone sends you a bonus saying you need to purchase hosting and leave you leftovers - it's a scam
c) blockchain projects links xyz are scam links
many more
- project catalog may be purchased right away without any discussion so be careful with a price!
