Ask your client to rename the contract on Upwork

The most important thing freelancers don't do

I just want to remind you again that Upwork’s default algorithm matches based on your work history. That’s why the keywords in it are important. Which keywords should you use? Of course, the ones your clients most frequently use in their job titles. You can learn how to research that here.

Now, for the most commonly asked question: when can a client change the name? Only when sending the offer.

It could be a new offer, so they can send the title you need.:

However, just a small reminder that this approach may affect your offer rate. Check it out here.

The second (and best) way is to rename their job post. Ask them to go to their jobs dashboard, find the relevant job, click on the three dots, and select 'edit post.'

Then, simply change the name (title) and perhaps the skills, if needed, and save.

💡
PRO TIP: If you’re hesitant to ask them to rename the contract, ask when they request a discount or something similar. ;)

More answers:

  • No, they can’t rename an existing contract.
  • No, they can’t rename a closed contract.
  • You can’t rename it either. :)

Hugs,
Tamara
